London's smash-hit production of George Orwell's "1984" comes to Broadway starring Tony nominee Tom Sturridge ("Orphans"), Olivia Wilde (TV's "House") and Tony winner Reed Birney ("The Humans"). Orwell's chilling portrait of a future dominated by surveillance, oppression and the omniscient "Big Brother" is cemented in popular culture as the most feared (and most possible) imagining of where our society is headed. Called "an unforgettable jolt of high-voltage theatre" by "HuffPost" and "101 minutes of high-energy terror" by "Entertainment Weekly", Hudson Theatre's radical, thrillingly visceral stage adaptation brings you terrifyingly close to Orwell's bleak vision of tomorrow. A self-proclaimed "drinking club with a Shakespeare problem," the merry members of New York's Drunk Shakespeare Society invite you to The Lounge at Roy Arias Studios for a night of suds and sonnets, cocktails and couplets, booze and ... well, you get the idea. As one member of this talented cast of lead-livered actors imbibes more than their fair share of liquid courage, an outrageous evening of theater ensues as they attempt to lead the rest of the cast through a Shakespeare story in just over one hour. Rest assured, the results will be sloppy, silly and occasionally iambic as the night devolves into inevitable debauchery. [less-]

With book, music and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick, "Midnight at the Never Get" features a sultry score fashioned after the American Songbook and imagines two fictional men set in a time that was all too real. Trevor Copeland and Arthur Brightman have the perfect New York romance. In 1965, it's also against the law. In the back room of The Never Get, an illegal Greenwich Village gay bar, they put together a show called "Midnight," a queer nightclub act where Arthur writes love songs for Trevor to sing to a man. Watch the two lovers grapple with a relationship they can't control and a movement they don't understand when this award-winning musical comes to The Mayflower Room of the Provincetown Inn. [less-]

Now a hit musical in its own right, "Spamilton" celebrates, roasts and eviscerates the history-loving Broadway blockbuster. "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda claims he laughed his brains out upon seeing this theatrical parody. Written and directed by Gerard Alessandrini ("Forbidden Broadway"), it's not just a send-up of its Tony-winning source material; it also pokes fun at such Broadway icons as Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Stephen Sondheim and more. This Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee heads to New York's 47th Street Theatre, starring a young virtuoso cast, with special guest diva Christine Pedi. [less-]

The Huffington Post called the one-woman play "#IamSueCostello" "the best combination of genuine poignance and rollicking humor, since the pioneering stage work of Lily Tomlin and early Whoopi Goldberg..." In it, the actress and comedian takes a searingly honest and hilarious look at her teen years spent on the streets of Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, through her life in New York City and Hollywood. Costello has appeared on countless television shows, including "NYPD Blue" and "Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn" on Comedy Central. She later had her own self-titled television series, "Costello", which she starred in, co-created and produced. She was a guest host on NBC's "Later"" performed on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend", and made it to the finals of NBC's "Last Comic Standing". She's also no stranger to the live stage, and you can catch her latest show at the Davenport Theatre in New York. [less-]

Tense thriller "In Her Own Words: The Diana Tapes" presents the true story of one of the greatest media scandals in British history -- the publication of Andrew Morton's book about Diana, Princess of Wales. The book ended her marriage and shook the monarchy to its core. After all these years, the question remains: Who was the victim and who the victor? The play moves between Morton's office, the sitting room where the Princess recorded her darkest secrets onto cassettes and the dingy West London cafe where one of her best friends surreptitiously handed them over. The subterfuge and deception were brought to a scorching climax that changed celebrity, privacy and the Windsor family forever. Timed to the 20th anniversary of the Princess' untimely death, "The Diana Tapes" makes its workshop premiere at New York's IRT Theatre. [less-]

Vincent Van Gogh's vibrantly colored paintings stir great emotions in his viewers, but the canvases are only part of the story. Van Gogh was tortured by inner demons (some called it madness), crushing poverty, the inability to sell his work and a frustrated love life, but was nonetheless capable of a remarkable output, leaving behind some 800 paintings and 800 drawings. He shared his struggle with his brother Theo in hundreds of letters. This written legacy has been recreated on stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center in "Van Gogh's Ear". [less-]

In 2009, Edward Albee surprised the theater community when he revisited and transformed his very first play, "The Zoo Story", 50 years after it was first produced. Now, Berkshire Theatre Group brings the reinvented play, retitled "At Home at the Zoo", to the stage of The Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge. This enlarged and powerfully provocative reworking adds the prequel "Home Life" to Albee's one-act classic. The new first act tells the story of Peter, a book editor, and his wife, Ann. Though they seem to have it all -- house, daughters, cats and a pair of parakeets -- the couple struggles to find the spark in their marriage. The tone changes dramatically when Peter goes out to the park and meets Jerry. Jerry's desperate need to connect and his arsenal of oddball stories contribute to an ending that, more than a half-century later, still shocks. [less-]
